Salman Khan to host 'Power of 10' for Sony

Salman Khan will host a TV game show for Sony Entertainment Televison (SET) titled Power of 10, in which contestants will be asked to guess the results of a nationwide survey. A correct guess will result in their prize money being multiplied by 10.

The show, an adaptation of the US show hosted by Drew Carey for CBS, will be produced locally by Synergy Entertainment. It signals Sony Entertainment's determination to compete in the high stakes battle for TRPs.

Salman Khan is reportedly being paid Rs 90 crore for the 100 episode game show that will air starting June.

Sony, which plans to aggressively promote the show during the IPL season, is banking on Salman Khan's popularity in India and abroad to ensure that rival shows like Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas se Tez Hain, hosted by Shah Rukh Khan for Star TV, and Fear Factor, hosted by Akshay Kumar for Viacom 18, don't eat into the SET's viewer base.

Akshay Kumar is reportedly being paid Rs 1.5 crore for each episode of the action themed Fear Factor, which will reportedly feature Bollywood actresses as contestants to begin with.
