An intriguing aspect is, why all the IEDs planted in Surat did not explode. Some reports have said that it was because of the rains. The IEDs in Surat must have been planted at the same time as those in Ahmedabad. On July 26, when the blasts took place in Ahmedabad, there were no rains, which came only the next day. If rains were the reason for the failure, the IEDs in Surat must have been timed to explode a day after the blasts in Ahmedabad.
The other possibility is that the terrorists deliberately did not want the Surat IEDs to explode but wanted the police to remain preoccupied with defusing them so that they can carry out blasts in some other town.
Nine blasts rocked Ahmedabad on Saturday evening. Cycles were probably used to plant the bombs, G K Parmar, joint commissioner of Ahmedbad police. Eight people were feared killed in the blasts. Parmar said that the police are on the lookout for more live bombs. Gujarat has been put on high alert following the serial blasts in the city. The blasts were reported from crowded areas like
Mani Nagar
Bapu Nagar
Diamond Market
Sarnagpur
Raipur
Jawahar Nagar
Hatkeshwar
Narol
One of the blasts occurred inside a bus. Another blast occurred outside the Bapu Nagar station.
Mani Nagar is Chief Minister Narendra Modi's constituency.
According to the police, all of them were low-intensity blasts. Over thirty people were reportedly injured in the blasts.
The Ahmedabad serial blasts come a day after two people were killed in seven serial blasts that shook Bengaluru.
Bapunagar, Isranpur and Raipur where the blasts have taken place, are considered to be communally sensitive areas. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has condemned the Ahmedabad blasts and appealed for calm.
The blast at Adugudi is reported to have left a crater in the road. Hosur road is a busy road connecting the centre of the city to the suburb.
Crude bombs were used for the blasts and were triggered by timers. Police has confirmed that nuts and bolts were used for maximum impact. They have found traces of Urea and Ammonium nitrate. The Chief Minister of Karnataka has called for an emergency cabinet meeting. Centre has ordered a probe into the situation.
There are speculations of the involvement of SIMI and LeT behind these blasts, though no confirmation has been received.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi condemned the blasts saying, "It’s a cowardly act." BJP has blamed the government for being soft on terror activities.
All the mobile phone networks have been jammed across the Bangalore city. All malls, schools etc have been shut down in the city. Police has requested everyone to maintain calm.
The police has confirmed that the blasts look pre-planned. Following the blasts, all metros have been put on high alert.

The twins, born a month premature and weighing 2lb each, are healthy, according to doctors.
The Panwars already have two adult daughters, and five grandchildren, but the latest arrivals are what they have been waiting for - not least because a son will benefit from a dowry when he marries and will be able to work their land. Mrs Panwar said: 'For eight months the pregnancy was hectic and painful. But I have given birth before, so I knew what to expect. Sometimes, you have to face the pain if you want something good.' Her husband added: 'At last we have a son and heir. We prayed to God, went to saints and visited religious places to pray for an heir.
'The treatment cost me a fortune but the birth of a son makes it all worthwhile. I can die a happy man and a proud father.' Wonders of science: The twins born to Omkari Panwar
Mrs Panwar, who has no birth certificate, uses the date of India 's independence in 1947 to gauge her age. She remembers being nine when the British left India - meaning she is now 70.
Romanian Adriana Iliescu, who gave birth to a daughter through IVF aged 66 in 2005, was previously the world's oldest mother. Mrs Panwar was told she had beaten the record as she recuperated on a rusty steel bed in the mudbrick home of one of her daughters.
Proud parents: Omkari Panwar, 70, with her husband Charan, 77 'I didn't know that,' she said. 'But it is of little benefit to me. I have not even seen my own children yet - they were taken to a specialist hospital while I was still unconscious.
'If I am the world's oldest mother it means nothing to me. I just want to see my new babies and care for them while I am still able.' Gynaecologist Nisha Malik, who delivered the twins in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, said: 'I was shocked when this old lady told me she was pregnant. I have been in medicine for 20 years and I have never heard of such a case.' Omraki Panwar recovers in hospital after delivering her twin via Caesarean section• Britain 's oldest mother is child psychologist Patricia Rashbrook, who was 62 when she gave birth to a son in 2006. Dr Rashbrook had paid £10,000 for IVF treatment in Russia .
Excerpts from People magazine, on Trishala talking about her father:
On not taking his calls after his marriage to Manyata:
"No, I was not ignoring his calls. I was busy... There were times when I was in class when dad called and then it would be too late for me to call him back in India. Dad got the wrong idea of why I wasn't taking his calls so he finally SMSed me and I called him back," she says.
On speaking to him the first time after his marriage to Manyata:
"I spoke to my father a few weeks after his marriage. When we spoke, it was like any other conversation -- completely normal. There was no tension between us."
On some of the things she and her dad talked about in the Bahamas:
"He is proud of me for choosing criminal psychology. I was updating him on the homicide and missing person cases that I have studied, and my meetings with some criminals."
On her relationship with Manyata:
"So far so good."
Principal Correspondent Sandipan Dalal, who reported on the reunion between Sanjay and Trishala, said, "The days preceding their meeting, Trishala was both nervous and happy. Nervous, because she hadn't met her dad for over one-and-a-half year. Joyous, because she was looking forward to spending some quality time with him. It is clear that it was a very emotional six days for both father and daughter. They connected with each other and the goings-on in each other's lives once again. As for Trishala and Manyata, it would be interesting to see how their relationship develops. While Trishala's only wish is to see her father happy, six days is too soon for anyone to say with conviction whether she and Manyata will go on to forge a meaningful relationship."
Manyata, it may be recalled, was said to be the reason for an estrangement between daughter and dad. Just before Sanjay's sudden marriage to Manyata, Trishala gave a series of well-publicised interviews stating that her father had given her to understand that she would be the only woman in his life.
