India rejects reports of Dawood's detention

New Delhi, August 7: Indian intelligence agencies on Tuesday rubbished reports suggesting that the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, key accused in the 1993 bomb blast is in the custody of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence agency.
An official said there was no basis for such reports, for the don is in Karachi and not Quetta, as reported.
According to news reports on Tuesday, Dawood Ibrahim, his trusted man Chhota Shakeel and the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai blasts Tiger Memon were in ISI's custody. The trio were supposedly taken into custody on Thursday from the Pak-Afghan area and were kept in a safe-house in Quetta. Reports also suggested that Pakistan could even “eliminate them and confiscates their vast wealth”.
Slamming the reports, the Indian intelligence agencies said that it was just a desperate move on the part of ISI to do a damage control act for the Musharraf regime amid mounting US pressure to take action against Dawood, who has been declared a terrorist by the latter.
